With a design based on 1909 Plan of Chicago, Navy Pier was originally built by Charles Sumner Frost in 1916 to serve as a dock for marine traffic and recreation.

Today it encompasses fifty acres and it among the top leisure destinations in the Midwestern United States, drawing nearly nine million visitors annually.
